Accounting Manager

Mapcom Systems is looking for a dynamic, passionate Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting activities. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial information. Accounting activities include month-end closing responsibilities, financial reporting, cash management and departmental process improvements. The Accounting Manager will supervise 2-3 employees covering A/R, A/P, and Payroll and will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the monthly financial statement close process including analysis and reconciliation of balance sheet and P&L accounts.  This includes:
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Prepaid expenses
    • Earned/unearned revenue recognition
    • Accrued commissions
    • Accrued expenses
    • Other accruals
    • P&L research and analysis
  • Manage and oversee work of A/R, A/P, and Payroll clerks, including planning and assigning tasks.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Work with CFO to identify areas of opportunity in controlling costs and strengthening internal controls. Improve finance department processes and procedures
  • Assist CFO in financial standards setting and financial forecasting process
  • Provide input into department’s goal setting process
  • Maintain fixed asset ledger.
  • Assist with periodic tax reporting and returns
  • Other duties as assigned


Position Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of prior public or management/operations accounting experience
  • Proven knowledge of management/operations accounting principles and procedures
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency with MS Excel including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Understanding of accounting principles for software companies
  • In-depth knowledge of financial statement preparation and financial statement analysis
  • Thorough understanding and experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close processes
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages (QuickBooks experience preferred)
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) will be preferred

Accounts Payable Specialist


Mapcom Systems is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist who possesses superior customer service skills and has vast knowledge of accounting best practices. The Accounts Payable Specialist will be primarily responsible for receiving invoices; coding and entering invoices into the accounting system, and processing checks. The Accounts Payable Specialist will also be responsible for understanding the monthly accounting cycle and assisting in month-end and year-end closes.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, code, and enter invoices into the accounting system.
  • Audit receipts and expenses for compliance with corporate policies.
  • Prepare, distribute, and/or mail timely payments.
  • Management of bulk expense reports
  • Reconcile credit card statements and expense reimbursements, including the review of receipts and the processing and distribution of expense checks.
  • Evaluate expenses and vendors for necessary accruals and process journal entries.
  • Track and assist with billing client reimbursable expenses.
  • Monitor and maintain petty cash.
  • Prepare annual vendor Forms 1099.
  • Continual filing and scanning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements:

  • Proven work experience as accounts payable clerk
  • Prior experience using Quickbooks
  • Prior job-costing experience
  • Prior accounts receivable and billing experience a plus
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payable principles
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software
  • Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with senior level management
  • Proficiency in English and in MS Office




  • High School Diploma required: Associate Degree in Accounting preferred

Line/Circuit Designer

Mapcom Systems is looking for a passionate Telecom professional to join our team as a Line/Circuit Designer to help grow our brand and business by working on one of the most effective and customizable software solutions in the telecommunications industry. This position requires someone who has a strong understanding of fiber and circuit-based networks at the physical and logical layers. Mapcom Systems is seeking a Line/Circuits Designer to assist in the implementation of software delivery projects that are heavily focused on managing telecommunications networks and circuits.  We are looking for someone who has a deep understanding of telecommunications networks and network inventory management systems and possesses a problem solver’s mindset.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of software delivery projects that are heavily focused on managing telecommunications network and circuits within a network inventory management system
  • Work in billable capacity on customer projects under the direction of the assigned project manager, including:
    • Field audits of CO and remote equipment
    • Conversion of customer circuit/equipment records into the M4 database
    • Training of Mapcom and customer staff in conversion techniques
    • Creating network connectivity models; representing splices and terminations
    • Creating DLR/CLR reports and training customers on creating the same
  • Work with Product Manager (Fiber and Circuits) in support of M4 modules and integrations
  • Work with Product Manager (Data Integrations) in support of integrations
  • Assist with on-site data reviews as necessary to gauge scope and estimate conversion effort
  • Providing internal and external consulting as a technical analyst in conjunction with our M4 Software Solution Suite


Position Requirements:

  • Experienced in provisioning circuits, creating a CLR/DLR, and monitoring/maintaining the reliability and performance of telecommunications networks from the perspective of an ILEC, CLEC, or other service provider
  • Experience using Netcracker, MetaSolv, Cramer or Granite XNG systems is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Data Integration Developer

Mapcom Systems is a Richmond-based company providing software to the telecommunications industry. Our clients are telecoms that range in size from large regional carriers to local rural communities. The telecommunications industry is entering a dynamic period of change and our goal is to partner with our clients to provide them with the processes and tools necessary to bring high-speed broadband to their communities.

Mapcom Systems is currently seeking a Data-Integration Developer responsible for performing system analysis, development, testing and implementation of applications and databases for client/server, Web, and PC-based software; as well as integrating third-party data sources.  Candidates must be proficient in coding database applications with experience in development, test and production environments.

Experience with SQL Server and T-SQL is required.
Experience with multiple programming languages is required, with C#, .NET, and Web Services preferred.
Must also be proficient in the analysis, data mapping, transforming and transferring of data from a variety of data formats using a variety of methods.
Candidates should have familiarity with the full product development lifecycle and will be expected to solve complex problems efficiently, with advanced SQL techniques.
Experience with ETL tools to move data to and from internal and external applications.
Effective communication with team members, managers and customers will be essential.
