Over $80 million in additional funds awarded to Mapcom clients closing the digital divide across rural America
This summer the USDA began announcing awards from round two of the Broadband ReConnect Program. The second round offered an additional $550 million in loans and grants to fund the construction, improvement or acquisition of facilities and equipment necessary to provide reliable, high-speed broadband service to rural areas. This total was augmented by an additional $100 million in funding from the CARES Act.
Eleven Mapcom Systems by VertiGIS clients are among the 83 projects funded in 2020: Ben Lomand, Direct Communications, Farmers Mutual Telephone Company, Matanuska Telephone Association, Midvale Telephone, Mon-Cre Telephone, NATCO Communications, Peoples Rural Telephone, Pioneer Telephone, Randolph Communications, and Union Telephone.
Together these organizations will receive $81,692,293 that will be used to bring fiber broadband access to 7,340 households and more than 20 critical community facilities, healthcare centers, and educational facilities in 10 states.
In total, 19 Mapcom clients have been awarded more than $200 million in ReConnect funding for broadband projects impacting over 39,000 households in 12 states. The program has now invested over $1.2 billion into rural broadband nationwide.
